Photographers Killed, Wounded In Libya

Chris Hondros of Getty Images was gravely injured in Misurata, Libya, on Wednesday in an attack that killed Tim Hetherington and injured Guy Martin and Michael Christopher Brown. These pictures, taken earlier in the day, show why Mr. Hondros has earned the respect of his colleagues for combat images that are gripping and intimate, but not at all melodramatic or forced. Mr. Hondros spoke with Lens in February about the dangers of conflict photography, after he was assaulted while covering the uprising in Egypt.

Informazioni per partecipare alla lettura dei portfolio:

Per partecipare alla lettura del proprio portfolio, inviare all’indirizzo school@studiomarangoni.it
entro il 17 aprile un portfolio in bassa risoluzione di max 20 immagini con un breve abstract del
lavoro e una biografia (max 500 battute). Saranno selezionati fino a 30 fotografi che hanno svolto
una ricerca con chiara impronta documentaristica. I portfolio selezionati riceveranno una mail di
conferma entro giovedì 22 aprile. La partecipazione è gratuita. Gli ammessi hanno diritto ad un
massimo di due letture a testa, che potranno indicare una volta ricevuto risposta di conferma.

Ogni appuntamento durerà 20 minuti.

L’autore potrà presentare un portfolio non superiore alle 20 fotografie, in stampa o formati
digitali(se si presentano con il pc portatile)

Verranno prese in considerazione eventuali “liste di attesa” direttamente nei giorni del festival.

In 2000, as part of its own institutional operations, Fondazione CRT created theFoundation for Modern and Contemporary Art, with the initial aim of expanding and safeguarding Turin and Piedmont’s cultural and artistic heritage. From its creation up until 2009, the Foundation pursued its aims, dedicating its efforts and resources almost exclusively to the purchase of works of art for the GAM Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Turin and Rivoli Castle’s Museum of Contemporary Art, offering these important institutions the chance to create one great collection, making Turin a city able to deal and compete with the most prestigious Italian and foreign institutions in the sector.

Since then the Foundation has chosen to continue with regular purchases, and works are identified on a case-by-case basis by the directors of the two museums, following the binding advice of a prestigious international scientific committee. In this way, these two institutions have had, and still have today, the chance to increase their prestige as exhibitors of an extraordinary artistic heritage, made available to the public and to other Italian and foreign institutions.

Since May 2009, as well as continuing to allocate funds for purchasing works of art for the collections of Rivoli Castle and GAM, the Foundation intends to plan and put into action schemes and programmes that will develop, strengthen and streamline Turin and Piedmont’s modern and contemporary art system by also helping advertise
and promote the system through Contemporary Art Torino Piemonte.
Regarding to the system actions, two projects have been already started: the project called Zonarte, one week of workshops dedicated to public education, and the project Giorno per Giorno, one month of events in every institution of contemporary art in Piedmont.
In this sense, the project RESÒ can be considered a system action, which aims to promote the artistic training process of young artists through exchanges between prestigious Piedmont and international residencies

Fotogiornalismo: Arte Immortale

Tempo fa, il direttore del mensile Wired USA ha dichiarato in un’intervista che “gli inviati e i fotogiornalisti non servono piu’, perche’ oggi, grazie ai social network, al cosiddetto citizen journalism e al fatto che la maggior parte delle persone hanno una fotocamera in tasca incorporata nel cellulare, sono le notizie a venire a noi”.
Siamo certi di poter confutare questa affermazione, e siamo altrettanto certi che il fotogiornalismo abbia davanti a se’ un futuro quantomai radioso. Mille volte, anche nell’era della tecnologia e dell’interconnessione globale, i fotogiornalisti della nostra agenzia si sono trovati a documentare eventi importanti in luoghi dove la superautostrada elettronica dell’informazione non esisteva, e non ci sarebbe stata ancora per lungo tempo. Se a portare quelle immagini e quelle notizie non fossero stati loro, esse probabilmente non sarebbero mai arrivate fino a noi.
E il fatto che in una certa zona del mondo Internet sia inesistente o quasi non significa automaticamente che quella zona sia talmente arretrata da rendere irrilevante cio’ che avviene li’: basta pensare all’Afghanistan.
